Mulled Wine

 - Mulled Wine -

Mulled wine is a red wine served warm and flavored with a variety of spices and citrus. I make my sparkling by adding ginger beer at the end for a warm and bubbly drink!

Ingredients

1 bottle red wine
(Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's would be perfect for this drink)
1 bottle Reed's Ginger Beer
2 cups Apple Cider
(fresh is best)
1 Orange
Slices of Ginger Root
1 Cinnamon Stick
2 Star Anise
Fresh grated Nutmeg
3-4 Cloves

To Make

Heat Apple Cider and spices in a sauce pan over medium heat.
Slice the orange and squeeze into the liquid. Throw in the whole pieces, too.
Float the slices of fresh ginger in the liquid, too.

Simmer your spice mixture for 10-15 minutes. Add the bottle of red wine.
At this point, turn the heat off so the alcohol doesn't boil out of the wine.

Right before serving add the bottle of ginger beer.
Serve in mugs or heavy wine glasses. Be careful of delicate wine glasses with the hot liquid.
Garnish with a slice or orange and float the spices for added festiveness!

This is the perfect warming drink to share with friends especially on cold nights like we've been having!

Enjoy!
