Hamburger Hi Hat is one of Nana's "retro" recipes! I think it was created in the 1950's when casseroles and cream of mushroom soup were popular! It is a good, hearty "man food" sort of dish. My husband loves it after a long day of work! "Hi Hat" means dressed up. So this dish is "dressed up" hamburger served over pasta. It's like a poor man's beef stroganoff.
Ingredients
1/2 lb Bacon, diced
1 cup Onion, diced
1 lb Ground Beef
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 cup Sour Cream
1/8 tsp Garlic Salt (or fresh garlic & pinch of salt)
1/2 tsp. Pepper
1 tsp. Poppy Seeds
1 package Egg Noodles
1 Tbs Butter
Directions
Saute bacon over medium heat until it starts to crisp up. Add 1 cup diced onion to bacon and saute until onion is translucent.
Add ground beef and saute until browned thoroughly.
Meanwhile, boil the egg noodles and add 1 Tbs Butter after drained.
Add cream of mushroom soup, garlic, salt, pepper, and parsley (optional) to the ground beef mixture.
Add 3/4 cup Sour Cream just before you serve. Mix well.
Serve over buttered noodles (I didn't have poppy seeds in the house but black pepper gives the noodles a pretty texture.) Serve with a dallop of sour cream and fresh parsley!
yum, I'm sure my grandma and mom made this...=) Sure my boys would love it too! I'll see if I can allergy friendly it up and we'll enjoy too!
